When I first started stamping, I came across the Mojo Monday sketches and Julee Tilman.  She's not just a card maker, but has her own line of stamps too.  Crazy talented, she is!  I just don't know how people can keep coming up with different sketches.  Amazing!  When I am short on time, I like to pop over to the mojo site and see what the sketch is.  It is so much easier to put a card together when I don't have to come up with a card layout!  I adore Mary Fish, and this is her sketch.  So, I had to try it.

Here is my take on the sketch.   I got into my new pack of Sweet Pea DSP and picked out some paper. (That pack of paper is huge! Some of my pages now have drool on them.  Purdy stuff.)  Go figure, it's the first time that Crushed Curry has appealed to me.  I had to use my new daisy die cut as well.  The saying is retired, but I really like the sentiment, and it fit the card.  Here's the inside of the card.

Really, Life IS meant to be lived with intention. This I truly believe, and I try to live each day with an awareness and a gratitude toward each moment.  I'm not always successful, but I I'm in there working at it!

As an aside, I watched two movies yesterday.  It's complicated I watched at the theater with my hubby (we were on a date {giggle}) and then in the evening I watched Julie and Julia. Guess I was in a Meryl Streep kinda mood.!  Two very good movies and very different from one another except for the fact that Meryl's character was a foodie in both.  I recommend them both if you have not yet seen them. But the reason I mention this is that in Julie and Julia, the character of Julie writes a blog.  She of course became famous and now has a movie based on her experience with her blog.  How interesting would a movie about a card maker, blogger be? Hmmmm? HEY, WAKE UP!  Yeah, you're right...not so interesting.  Guess I'll have to find my fame elsewhere! :-)

A Valentine for you

This is a great little Valentine holder.  It's sorta a mini book, note card and treat holder all in one.  I adore things that are versatile (see my other posts to prove this point.) The heart is inked in white craft and then embossed with white embossing powder so it really pops.  It's cute right now, but open it up and....

waa laaa!....there's a little place to put a love/friendship note and another pocket to put a tea bag or maybe some chocolate (Maybe both!). The person I made this for is a tea drinker, so the tea bag works for her.  I used the Sending Love Specialty DSP, so there's a little sparkle on the papers, too. (Yes, this has two of my favorite things--red and sparkle.)  Interesting thought: I hardly ever wear red or bright colors, and the only jewelry I wear is a simple wedding ring, my grandmother's ring and simple earrings.  I'm a pretty neutral gal in real life, but I go for red and bling in my creations. One of the main colors in my house is a deep maroon color. What would Freud say?  hmmmmm?

Black and white and blingy babe!

How does the old joke go?  What's black and white a "red" all over?  A Newspaper! budump-ching! (Sorry...had to get that out of my head.) This card is hopefully more exciting than the newspaper.  The card is for two challenges.  The Saturday Sketch Challenge over at Stamping 411, and The Play Date Cafe Color Challenge which asked for black and white along with silver and gold.

I changed the sketch a bit to make a larger square card .  Here's my interpretation. 

I had a hard time getting the gold in there until I found an old bracelet that my M.I.L. gave me that had fallen apart and made its way into my bling box.  Waaa laaa, some gold! It's hard to see in the picture, but there are crystals in the corners, and the stamped image is done in a mix of black embossing powder and iridescent ice powder, so it shimmers when the card is moved.  My daughter, bling lover like her mother, really liked this card.  It will have to be one that is given in person since the USPS would charge me an arm and leg to send it and then probably crush the stone.  But that's okay, 'cause a card given in person can be given along with the hug!

Two, Two, Two challenges in one!

I'm really enjoying participating in swapping and some of the challenges out in stamping land.  Today's card is for a swap for my swap group (Love the SSUS ladies!) and for the Mojo Monday #120.  I love this sketch.  It's a keeper!  The swap had to be a birthday card, and with all the hype about the Disney movie, "The Princess and the Frog" (well I should qualify that with the statement that the hype is in my home), I figured I'd do something along the line of kissing a prince as a birthday wish.  Okay, it makes me giggle to see the frog in this stamp.  He looks so darn happy to be sittin' with the flowers, and I'd bet he's a prince of a frog.

It was also nice to get some happy spring colors out.  Love red.  It's my favorite color, and usually shows up somewhere on most of my cards.  But there is not even a dot of it on this card! With all the cold and the slushy snow and the gray skies, this card is just the ticket for a happy birthday wish.

Goin' "green" with leftover tile and Decor Elements

I love my family.  I really do.  But sometimes things can start bothering me.  Little things.  Like drink glasses on the kitchen counter...what seems like hundreds of them.  When I ask whose glass is whose, no one knows.  Harumph!  So, with a piece of left over tile from the floor and some of SU's great Decor Elements, I made a very simple place holder for my counter top!  My kids really liked watching me adhere the "people" to the tile. (Squealing and laughing when an eye or piece of hair didn't make the first transfer! But that was easy to fix and we had a wonderful time.  Yes, we are easy to entertain!).  Now everyone knows where to place the glass/cup so it may be used again and I'm not running the dishwasher as often.  It cleans up easy too! I guess you could call this a "Green" project! lol.

Here is how each of  the Decor Elements came in my order. Directions are great.  I already had the applicator tool from a previous purchase.

I cleaned the tile and then put the Dad and the Mom and the Daughter and the Son onto it.  And waaa laaa!

I didn't adhere the decor elements directly to the kitchen counter since I wanted to have some flexibility.  I hope to someday have granite for the kitchen counter, and I didn't want to loose my nifty place holder. I know it isn't the prettiest project, but it's so ....so... functional! If I had put the people onto separate tiles, I could probably guarantee that one would get chipped, or get dropped, or find it's way to Mars...where I believe all my other items are that I cannot locate.  And best of all,  it works!  Lookie!

Yup, it took NO training to get my family to place a used glass in the correct spot.  I kid you not...NO training.  It's like it attracts the glasses/cups! Makes me smile every time I see just three to four classes on my counter.  A sigh of contentment escapes me and life is good. :-)

Love swap

This is going to be a short post.  How do I let myself get so overwhelmed!?  Huh!?  I have more tile being put into the house, and I hate, hate, hate the mess it makes.  Love the easy cleanup of tile once it's in, but the actual job of laying it is messy, messy, messy! 

This card was made for a swap of a group to which I belong.  The stamp set, Season of Friendship, is one of my favorites.  A person can do just so doggone much with it!  Is it a Christmas set, winter, spring, Valentine set?  Yup!  It can be all!  Gotta love a set that is that versatile.  I hope you like the card.

New Stuff!

I think 2010 is going to be a great year. I can just feel it in my bones.  Can you feel it too!?

I have a swap to share with you today. This card uses the new DSP from the Occassions Mini that customers can start buying  beginning on Tuesday the 5th. (See the link on the left if you want to view the catalog from my website.) This paper is GORJUS baby! It sparkles! Yes, SU added the bling for us bling happy lassies. :-) I cut out some of the flowers on one sheet of the DSP for the sparkly lovlies in the top left corner.  The sentiment is also from the new mini.  The set is called Well Scripted.  It's flowy and curly and pretty, yes?  I bought mine in the new acrylic block form just to see what they are like. (SU is going to offer all new stamps sets in both the wood block or for use with the acrylic blocks.) They're pretty cool, I have to say. The stamp is still rubber, but SU designed a sticker that adheres to the part that would normally stick to the wood block. So you put the sticker on and then that sucks onto the clear block. Technically, you cannot see through the stamp---well, because it's rubber---but you can get a very good idea of where you're stamping because of the sticker. Ingenious I say! I really don't like acrylic stamps (Sorry for all you lovers out there) but they just don't clean up well and the image isn't as crisp. (The see through stamps just move too easy and smudge and then I'm upset and....well I just want to throw them across the room.) So you can understand why I love the compromise SU came up with. Yup...love it. Sign me up to be a demonstrator! Ooops, I already am...heheheheh. :-) 

Notes for the card.  It's hard to see in this picture, but the apricot paper is embossed and then I traced the emboss with a white gel pen to make the pattern pop.  There is also embossing on the main background piece of regal rose to match the curly forms of the sentiment stamp.  The sentiment was stamped in versa mark and then embossed with a mixture of black and irredescent ice embossing powders so it shimmers as well.  What looks like brads in the upper right corner are 1/4" punched circles.
